I got some color on the rooster today. He is looking good. I'm not sure about the white feathers, they are really light blue, might have to do some texture on them. I'm playing with some salt for the background pattern but that will have to wait until Thursday. I found my other camera, right where it was suppose to be so I took another picture of the heron. I think he needs a darker background. I haven't tried repainting over the silk paint, I hope it works.

I got some color on the heron today. I can't find my other camera and this is the one that makes the colors all look wonky. This one has an orange cast to it and all the colors are washed out. It looks WAY better in real life color wise. I'll get the rooster tomorrow and try to find my other camera. The heron is on the silk and resist has been applied. The darker lines are done in black resist, the lighter lines are in clear which will leave the white of the silk as the lines. Found out today that we are not having company this weekend so I should be able to get started painting these soon. It just depends on how hot it is upstairs. Maybe I can work up there in the mornings. Have a happy Fourth and a great weekend, everyone! Wow time flies. It's been a really busy week here. I did get this guy draw out, on the silk and the resist applied. I have another heron draw out, I wasn't crazy on how the last one turned out so I thought I'd give it another shot. It's still a pretty steep learning curve with the silk. This guy is kind of skewed in the photo. Not sure when I'll get to paint him, probably after the weekend. Have a great fourth of July Weekend! Wow did I get a lot done today. Frames varnished, herons on silk heat set, the resist washed out, dried and pressed and ready to be mounted in the frames. Several armatures made and the paper attached. Tried a couple of new things with the armatures. And even got a couple of coats of varnish on some finished paintings from earlier this week. To busy to even take pictures today. I have to go to town tomorrow but I'll try to get some pictures and get the watercolor jewelry done in the afternoon.
I'm through with the lilacs for now. I'll wait until I have some real ones to work from. The table is more prominent now and I tweaked the colors a little bit. Also got the second heron painted, now it needs to sit for about 5 days before I can heat set and wash out the resist to see what I have. Also worked on a small diptych, each is only 2 1/2 by 3 1/2. They are paper panels I put gesso on to experiment with watercolor on gesso. I really like how it goes on and how easy it is to work with on the gesso. The colors lift very easily, still not back to white with the M. Graham watercolors. Off to meet with the painting group today. The second heron is on the silk waiting to be painted. Well the resist is drying and then it will be ready to paint. I think I might have to redo this guy, the resist came out to thick. The second one is the first heron painted and just hanging there to dry. I never know if I'll like it at this point. Have to wait to set it and wash it out to tell for sure. Off to get a haircut. Woohoo! Chris brought me some frames this weekend so I can get back to some silk work. Two are the same size and one is about an inch smaller. For the same sized ones, I'm working on a pair of nesting herons in silk. I have them both drawn out and the first one is on the silk, detail below. Hopefully I haven't forgotten the skills needed to work with silk. I'm so excited to get back to the silk painting! And my gold wire arrived today. Unfortunately I have to go to town tomorrow, OPS. I won't be able to work on anything until Wednesday. Lot's to keep me working. Earrings to match the last batch of bracelets in copper and sterling silver. I'm getting lots of compliments on how these look. Everybody really likes them. I painted that scrap piece of silk finally. The resisted I used had turned bad, turned to liquid. I thought I'd give it a try and just added some more of the good resist to it, didn't work. The paint broke through the resist lines and made a mess. Interesting affect but now I know if the resist has turned to liquid, dump it out. Anyhow I'm still going to mount this on a canvas or board to see what that looks like. Chris is supposedly making me some more frames for the silks but I need a backup plan for these silks in case I can't get the frames. |
