I've added a few of the whimsical mailable art cards to the store. These are the single sided (not folded) mailable art pieces. Each one contains an original work of art in ink and watercolor on toned paper with a matching envelope, 4"x6" with free shipping. Playing with the watercolors on toned paper. These just make me happy. Really loose quick sketches with watercolors and ink. Mailable art 4"x6" postcards with envelopes $5 each. I'm working on a few cards and they should be available soon. Happy New Year everyone!
The trees here are fascinating there are so many different shapes, sizes, colors and types of leaves. I thought I would use some of my social isolating time getting a little watercolor practice in while studying some of the trees I can see from my little corner of the world. I did use premixed greens on this one. Usually I like to mix my own greens but since this was nothing but greens I thought I would familiarize myself with the greens I have with me. I’ll have to play a little bit more to see what I get when I mix these greens with some of my blues and yellows. I’m working on making a turquoise from what I have without resorting to buying a premix. I have not hit upon a combination I’m happy with yet. The beach scene from yesterday’s post was painted with a waterbrush and my mini six color palettes. Today’s leaf study was with my expanded palette and a travel brush. Small starts.
Practicing a little social isolation with my sketchbook and some watercolors. I'm not a huge fan of the waterbrush but it will do in a pinch. I had a really hard time facing the blank page for some reason. Maybe it's the stress of the move or the threat of covid 19 but the only way through it is to just do it. First page in a new sketch book.
What a lovely day! I cooked, painted and played some music. Stepped out for a little bit to watch a football game and repeated. This week wiil be filled with more interesting happenings. I should get a call to take down my art at the Loft or maybe keep it up another month. I'll buy my ticket to Panama and a couple other nice surprises. And Saturday I got to watch my granddaughter ride in her very first equestrian event. Oh and tomorrow starts "Inktober". Very grateful for all the amazing experiences happening right now.
Scene from the park. I've skipped posting a couple days due to sheer frustration. I'm not sure what wall I hit or if I was was just putting too much stress on myself so I just backed off and went back to basics. Same paper but I ditched the waterbrush and switched to a good brush. HUGE difference in my approach and how I feel about painting in watercolor. I'll stick with this brush for now and remember to slow down!
Spray of flowers, day 5 of the 30 day challange. Not happy with the results but I made the effort. Feeling the strain at work this week but it will get better quickly. Just exhausted tonight. "Tomorrow is another day" Santana. Now that makes me smile!
Day 4 taken from a reference photo. It's a little looser but still a long way to go. This direct painting with no pre-drawing is a learning challange. Also using nothing but a waterbrush is getting old fast. I think before the month is over I'll be using real brushes and better paper than whats in my sketchbook.
Still extremely overworked but hanging in there. It's going to take a while to get the "feel" for watercolor again. I am thinking about one more piece in liquid oils before my show and I may need the confidence boost after playing with the watercolors.
So today I regrouped and changed my approach. I used my tiny six color palette and my waterbrush, the same setup I'm planning on taking out and about sketching this month.
I also concentrated more on the "lightness" of the flowers. Better but still tons of room for growth. |
