102 to be exact. The flu has arrived. I imagine I'll be down for a couple of days. Slept 11 hours last night and will probably sleep most of today. I'll get back to my art as soon as I can.

I see they've started advertising for Valentines day gift's already. It made me think of this one I received this a few years ago from a friend, plastic light up heart, still works. It made me think, sometimes the smallest gestures mean the most. It's the only Valentines present I've received in probably ten years or better. So let's all remember to be nice to each other this year, do those little things for others and brighten their day. You never know how much it might mean to someone them. Another day of OPS. I've been watching my new Don Andrews DVD's and decided I needed to get out my bigger palette and set it up. I don't think I've used this thing in 18 years. You can see the regular palette that I use on the right. Huge difference in size. Anyhow I filled the big one with a bunch on student grade paints that someone gave me years ago. The price on these tube ran from $1.90 to $3.20, that's how old they are. The paints I usually use, M. Graham, run from $7.35 to $13.77 a tube. And of coarse the colors I like are the more expensive ones. But I don't have to use as much paint with the M. Graham's because they are so highly pigmented. It will be good to use up these old paints, less things to pack. Got this one done today. I need to iron it and put in the hanging rod. It turned out really nice. I'll have to try to get a close up of some detail. I populated the photo memory quilt gallery. Click on gallery, then the picture quilt to see more and larger versions. I got the borders on, laid it on the batting and figured out I was out of fabric for the backing. I'll have to run into Hamilton or wait until next week when I go to Missoula for fabric. I did get the last scarf heat set and washed. It was really good practice for me with the resist and trying out different techniques. It is bright, bright, bright! I'll have to work on a new project tomorrow. Maybe work out another design to use in the open frame silk picture. I need to call Chris and see if he can make me a couple more frames. This one is looking pretty good for the ugly stage. I'll get the borders on tomorrow and get started quilting on it. Anita, thank you so much for letting me know you liked your photo memory quilt. Some times it feel like I'm working in a vacuum when I don't get any feed back. And portraits really do make me nervous, I glad you like it. Today I got a couple of things ready to paint. I didn't get much done yesterday because I was doing OPS (other people's stuff). Tomorrow should be a good day to paint. This is another "cowboy" scene, ready to put some color on it tomorrow. This one will probably be a display piece, a sample to show people. They look so much better in person then they do in a photo even when they're at this stage. I'm pretty happy with how this turned out considering I haven't tried this technique before. There are a couple things I'll change on the next one but over all pretty happy with it. Now if I can get a better picture. Will try this again in a bigger size. This might also be fun on watercolor canvas. I'll have to get one stretched and ready to go. |
